Lost some database data Empty
PostSubject: Lost some database data   Lost some database data Empty2/11/2020, 04:20

Hi Guy,

Need your help.

Out of nowhere I lost some data. Drivers, Cars and Track data are gone.

I still can see all the race history stats, but when I open the pclc_505.mdb file, and open the racehistory table, the last race I see there is from 2017. All 2020 races are gone. Is there another database file?

How can I recover the data I lost?

Please help.

Thank you.

Eduardo

Hello,

That's really strange, this is the first time this kind of problem has been reported to me.
In normal situation there is only one file but when the database is opened by a program then there is 2 files: pclc_505.mdb and pclc_505.ldb.
I don't know how you can recover data, it's a Microsoft access database , maybe you can find a tools on internet.
Or maybe you can restore a backup of the database, did you have a backup ?

Regards.

Guy

Hi Guy,

It´s even stranger than you think. I have found the real database file and it´s not the one located at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\PC Lap Counter\Database

The one PCLC is using is (along with other files) at:

C:\Users\eduardo.teixeira\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\PC Lap Counter\Database

Bellow is an image of that folder

I did have a backup of the database file, but it was useless because that file was not being used for a long time. The one in use by PCLC is in this other folder that I did not know existed.

Did you know that? Can you please explain it to me?

Thank you.

Eduardo

You have install Pc Lap Counter in the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\PC Lap Counter\ and in that case it's like windows put all the files in the Windows Virtual Store Location, more information here https://www.networkinghowtos.com/howto/windows-virtual-store-location/
I suggest you to reinstall Pc Lap Counter on the default folder C:\Pc Lap Counter, of course this will not recover your database but at least windows will not move the files anymore.

OK. I will do that, but what about the license? Can I reinstall PCLC and keep the licensing?

Thank you.

Before you reinstall/upgrade your race computer or change any hardware  (hard disk, BIOS update, CPU, Video Card, etc...)  you have to transfer your license to another computer otherwise your Pc Lap Counter will return in DEMO version and you will need a new activation key.
More information on the license and transfer procedure here http://www.pclapcounter.be/license.html

Best regards
Guy
