Serial port setting for PC Lap Counter

I have looked over and over again in the forum for this issue, I am now running at 38400 bps, 1bit, Parity: none, Stopbit 1, and the last "what ever its called in english": none

The thing is that i miss laps every now and then, sometimes i miss "pit in" (second powerbase) and sometimes it will not go "pit out" when i hit the trottle, not the same car. Both powerbases reacts when the car pass but not pc lapcounter, no larger car or driver pix than 20k. Any sugestions?

Which version of Pc Lap Counter did you use and on which system (w98, xp,....) ?

Its SSD, i run 4.44c, win 98

Modifying COM setting in windows is not necessary because PC LAP COUNTER open the COM with the good Setting.
To solve your problem i need more information:
- In the Scalextric Digital interface of Pc Lap Counter did you have error message like "COM1:Error:.........." when a car cross the S/F line ?
- Are you sure that you cable is correct , did you make it your self or it come from Rich G ?

I use a straight in cable with no RS232 chip and it works like 30-50 times flawles and then i miss a lap or a pit stop, yes i do get com1 error 1004 com event frame all the time and some times com 2 error 1004 com event frame can the 2 cables that are used ben mixed up or something

EDIT: I mean that if i mixed up eg. black to pin 2 and red to pin 5 or vise versa

I can't answer you because my knowledge in electronics is very basic.

If you receive error then it mean that you have a problem with the cable , i suggest you check your cables...here is some links for the cable diagram:
