Another suggestion Guy, to really add value to the SSD pitlane extension. How about adding the ability to issue 'stop-go' penalties. It would work like this:
1. Via the race update button, the race controller clicks the 'stop-go' penalty button next to the appropriate driver. The software flags the driver as needing to perform a 'stop-go' pit stop.
2. The next pit stop that driver makes is a stop-go pitstop. No fueling takes place. The stop go starts after the 'pit-in' event is triggered (by LC or brake button) and the 'pit-out' signal is given after a predetermined (user configurable) amount of time in seconds. If there is any throttle input between 'pit-in' and the 'pit-out (GO)' signal, the stop-go has not been successful and the driver must perform the 'pit-in' sequence again.
3. Once the driver has performed 'pit-in', waited for the 'go' signal and presses his throttle, the system clears the 'stop-go' penalty flag.
4. A driver must make his 'stop-go' within x laps (configurable)
5. If a driver fails to make his stop-go penalty within the x laps or before race end, the driver is disqualified - software stops counting his laps and/ or discounts his position in the event of race end.
Now, why would the race controller issue a stop-go?
1. The system could automatically issue one in the event of a false start
2. We give a penalty for knocking other cars off the track - this is especially common in digital racing. Faster cars push cars off the track from behind, rather than using the lane changers to 'overtake' other cars.
3. We have a rule that drivers are not allowed to touch their cars - even if they de-slot. Only marshalls may re-slot cars. This saves drivers from climbing all over the track, trailing wires and obscuring other driver's vision. If a driver touches his car, he is penalised.
4. Any other cheating I haven't thought of!
You would need extra sound events to call 'stop-go for driver x' .
Man, this would be so cool. What do you think Guy?
