Hello Guy,

With many choices of detection available, what would be your first choice for PCL, for optimum reliability and any future updates you may have in mind.

I ask this for analogue racing.

Hi Ferrari,
Happy you back in the forum Very Happy
Best is the Phidget interface kit 0/16/16, for detector i suggest you follow Foiler Schema here: https://pclapcounter.forumotion.com/phidgets-interface-kit-f14/connect-detector-to-phidget-0-16-16-t265.htm
With Diagram 2 you will have pitstop detection by using "timing gantry".
In the future i will add more light possibility to show First, second, best lap....and of course this mean that the hardware must have many output and Phidget interface is perfect for that (you can connect more than 1 phidget interface).
For detection check also this post: https://pclapcounter.forumotion.com/phidgets-interface-kit-f14/missing-laps-with-phidget-0-16-16-and-0001-pulse-width-t311.htm

My apologies for the late reply.
Many new changes which are terrific to see Very Happy
I also noticed you have recently upgraded your parallel port detection software, which I will give a go, but I have more faith with the phidgets option because you suggested it, and also because I feel that others have had more sucess with them here on your forum (having less or no missed laps) study ...I just could not get the parallel port detection working reliably for me scratch

Will be nice if you could test beta of version 4.46 with parallel port improving because actualy i did not receive any return.
If you have problem with version 4.46 please post here

Hi Ferrari

I have not yet have the time to test the new and improved parrallel interface, but if this works as planned I would certainly recommend this over phidget - simply because phidget is to slow when counting the laps (0,008 sek)

I hope to have tested the new parrallel solution by next week and will give you our results, but anyway, we use phidget right now, and it counts every lap, only problem is the above mentioned refresh rate

But for the future development that Guy is considering Phidget will open up for a lot of great features

:-)

Thanks for the insight lars, I think reliable lap detection should be finally put to rest with a definite ‘bullet proof’ solution. PCL is very rich in features and flexibility and such a shame that I can’t get it to work without timing flaws.

Interesting that Guy has asked for our PC specifications in another thread, because I have always wondered if that may be the cause of my missed laps (my computer is underpowered for today’s minimum specs) however I don’t have a problem with other software using an interface for lap timing…I’m just thinking out loud.

Maybe this new parallel port improvement will be the solution. But for some reason (sorry I cannot back this statement up in technical terms) I believe that a dedicated interface card that actually does the timing, and then sends this information to the computer might be a more reliable method…some sort of buffer?? scratch ...what are your thoughts?

I have just recently moved home, the whole track was moved in one piece, now I’m left with the task of connecting the timing arrangement…interesting to see how you get on with new parallel port version of PCL, as I am looking for new direction and want to make PCL my system of choice.

We were speaking about this last night as a good idea with our club organiser...you must have heard us Shocked

Brilliant! As this interface has proven to be bullet proof with 4 club tracks!

Where is the 4.46 download button hiding Suspect
