error 1001 and 1004 with DS300 via Phidget. Gary Woods (who's schematic is featured on your site) installed a phidget interface to use PC Lap Counter with my DS300 system and Stop/Go boxes. The DS300 is connected to the Phidget using a parallel to USB adapter and then to the PC via USB. Is that right? My interpretation of the schematic is to connect the DS300 to the PC via parallel port and the PC to the Phidget via USB. Regardless, neither works. I paid $600 for the install plus the cost of the PCLC license and it's all worthless.

For sure it will not work: you have to connect your ds300 to the serial port of your computer, if your computer not have a serial port then you have to buy a usb/serial adapter.

Thanks Guy.
I've attached the DS300 directly to the serial port on my laptop and the Phidget to laptop via USB cable. Now I don't get the error messages anymore, but the best I could get is "Waiting signal DS300...
Perhaps my DS300 is not outputting data?

Yes could be that your DS300 not send data, to know just go in the DS300 interface of Pc Lap Counter and click on the debug button, this will display the data from the DS300.
Also some DS300 work at 4800 baud and other at 56000 baud, i suggest you try the different baud.
For your information each time you launch the Pc Lap Counter program it is necessary to synchronize Pc Lap Counter with the DS, to synchronize simple push the button start/stop of the DS lap counter or let a car pass the detector.
Synchronization is successful when the light in the DS interface of Pc Lap Counter is GREEN.
It is not necessary to make this handling at each race or segment, only after the launching of the Pc Lap Counter program.

If it's not still working then i suggest you test your DS300 with another software and see what happen and if you have the same problem with other software then i'am afraid that your DS300 is broken, i had already users with bad DS lap counter and the solution was to replace the chip ST 232 CN of the DS lap counter.

Thanks again Guy, this is very frustrating. When using the serial to USB adapter to connect DS-300 to the laptop, COM5 provides 1001 and 1004 errors. When using the serial port directly without the adapter, I get nothing on any of the COMs except when the USB adapter is plugged into the Phidget even though not connected to anything on its other end, which is how I got the "Waiting signal DS300..." before.
